Tell us a summary of your story living with HIV/AIDS
I have been living with HIV since November 30, 2019. Being a black trans woman I always took pride in being negative.
However, as life happened and obstacles and struggles occurred, certain lived experiences took me down a path of sex work along with drugs and alcohol to numb my pain. Wanting to feel love in anyway possible, I subjected myself to people and environments that didn’t mean me any good.
Once I started to regroup and get my life back on track one day I randomly went and got tested at BU Wellness Network and that was the day I found out I was HIV positive.
What would it mean to you if we ended this HIV epidemic?
If we ended the HIV epidemic that would be groundbreaking and a monumental success.
What does U=U mean to you? How does it affect your life?
U=U for me means uncompromising not settling for excuses and holding those responsible for finding a cure accountable. Also, being a voice for the voiceless taking a courageous stance and living loud and bold in your truth as a long term survivor. By doing this we are breaking barriers while building bonds that forges a greater future that will cultivate a stronger community of intentional commitment that supports individuals living with HIV and what that looks like in modernized society and healthcare.
How many years have you been undetectable?
