Michelle is a strong woman that HIV has been living with for more than 15 years. Michelle is the Chair of the Ryan White Planning Council for the Indianapolis Transitional Grant Area (TGA). She works with the ZIP Coalition in Region 7 (Marion County) and volunteers at the Damien Center.

Michelle reflects on her service:

Being an advocate and volunteer with HIV Modernization Movement – Indiana is wonderful. Working with the ZIP Coalition is rewarding. Holding all of these various roles is a challenge, but I’m up for it. Ending the HIV epidemic is the goal – PUSH THROUGH.”

Tell us a summary of your story living with HIV/AIDS

I never thought HIV could happen to me because I was married at the time. I figure if you’re going to cheat be respectful about it – take your dirty laundry with you. Use a condom or whatever protection is required.

We as women always feel we can fix what is cracked or broken.

I am no longer broken or cracked. I didn’t walk away soon enough!

I am not my DIAGNOSIS. Living my life like it is GOLDEN and it is to me.

What would it mean to you if we ended this HIV epidemic?

Almost world peace for sure!

How many years have you been undetectable?

Over 15 years

Anything else I should know about you?

I want to help as many people as I can to understand HIV. Moving here to Indianapolis was the best thing I could have done.
