Help Us #CelebrateUU: Love Beyond the Diagnosis
I’m excited to share the next chapter of #CelebrateUU — a project that uplifts the voices and experiences of people living with HIV. For this new phase, #CUUC (CelebrateUU for Couples), I’m focusing on serodifferent (HIV-positive and HIV-negative) couples who embody love, trust, and the power of science.
Why This Matters
We’ve come a long way with education around U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable) and PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) — but stigma, fear, and misinformation still keep too many people in the dark.
These couples are living proof that “there is love beyond the diagnosis.”
Through intimate portraits taken in their homes and first-person stories in their own words, this project will:
- Humanize the science of U=U
- Highlight the role of PrEP as a prevention strategy, where applicable
- Showcase real, joyful love stories that defy stigma
- Build empathy, understanding, and visibility
My Vision
I’m inviting 15 serodifferent couples to share their stories and portraits. These works will form the basis of a powerful photo series and traveling exhibition. Like the original #CelebrateUU project, each portrait will be paired with a narrative, giving voice to the diverse ways couples navigate HIV with care, honesty, and love. Couples will receive a $100 gift card for their time and effort ($50/person if there is a thruple or other configuration to their story).
Ideally, this exhibit will debut for World AIDS Day this December 2025 — or if that timeline’s too ambitious (and hey, sometimes art needs time to breathe), I’ll aim to launch it at the Long-Term Survivors Summit next year in 2026.
I also hope to partner with a First Friday gallery to give this work even more reach in the public eye.
